We do and it is hard when they are gone. When he was in Iraq was worse then Korea because of the war going on there. I was so glad when he got home from Iraq. I pray for the soldiers that are there now. I pray for their families. We have friends that are there now. I have heard it said "Army wife the hardest job in the Army."

My husband is Active duty Army--88 kilo--part of security detail and in Iraq as we speak...right now he is an E-4.

Mommy and his 2 little girls miss him so.

Lots of military here on BYC. Thank you for serving.

My dad was army--munitions.

My fil (dh's step father)served in Vietnam but you'll never get him to talk about it. Though he did give dh a ring before he left and said it was his battle buddies and he didn't make it. Dh gave him a gold coin he earned in return right before they said good bye standing in the driveway. Tear jerker moment.

My nephew is Army, serving in Japan.

I have a gg...grandfather, George Gillespie, who established the Presby. church in Scotland. His painting is hanging in the church and he is buried there.

I'm related to Daniel Boone from my paternal Grandfather's side somehow.

The book Chesapeake tells the tale of a family who's husband & boy children were killed by Indians (I'm not sure which Indians?) as they travelled, while the wife and girl children were kidnapped and my mother says we are related but I do not know how.

My husband has Choctow in him from his biological father's grandma? or great grandma?

Anyway, histories mysteries...interesting parts of the past.

Me,
gretchen

This is cool! Thanx for guiding me to it, so lets see, where do I begin?

Maternal side:

Grandfather: WWII Vet. Gunner and Warrant Officer

Grandmother: Civilian employee, driver for Generals

2 Great Uncles: Both served in the Navy, WWII

I'm sure there's more, I just can't remember at the moment.

Paternal side:

All males in the military dating back to the Civil War.

Father: US Army Vet. Viet Nam

And then there is little ol me, the only female in our family to have served: USAF 1990-1998 Korea x 2, Desert Storm, MP/K-9 explosives detection.

I salute all who have served in the past, who are currently serving, and all those who will serve in the future!

My dad was in the Army from 42-45 as a Medic, went from North Africa to Sicily, to Italy, to Austria. My uncle was in the Army from 42-45 and drove a light sherman in Europe.

Sure a bunch of Lee's descendents running around LOL!

I was certain that Geo Washington had kids.......hope he didnt receive a war wound that would keep him from having kids! Good thing he adopted Martha's kids as his own!

Good stories! I have a few of my own from my great uncle who was a paratrooper from the Flying Eagles, been into foxholes and sheer terror of horror of finding or have to stay put next to a dead German soldier in a foxhole while the battle rages on. He also talked about a famous city in France that he almost got ambused by the Germans at one point.
