calling any one from missouri

I got a pullet egg for sure today! :wee
Reason I am certain is bc I sent my three 3-yo BO, who have been mostly setting all summer rather than laying, to an Amish lady near here who processes them for me, yesterday. All I've done with my BO all summer so far is break them from brooding, over and over again, so I just gave up. Sweet girls, but they have never been very productive. Anyway, I got a brown egg today, so it had to be from one of my BA, which were 20 weeks old yesterday. Woohoo! I'm hoping they will not go broody. My EE never do!

@OhZark Biddies I processed one of the meat chicken hens. She processed in at 6lbs 5.5 ounces. The roosters have been about 2 pounds heavier. All of them have been from the same batch/age group of meat chickens. I have 2 more hens to do and then all 6 of the original meat birds will be done. Just in time to start thinking about starting to process some of the larger birds in the group of 16 Jumbo Cornish Cross birds I got from Cackle Hatchery.
Also, Thursday, July 2nd is when my Queen cell(s) are supposed to hatch in the split I made with my bee hive! I hope everything goes well!
I think I am supposed to wait 2 weeks after that and then start looking for eggs being laid. I'll have to use a magnifying glass to see those little eggs! :lau

@karenerwin when you calculate the meat weight, is that "bone-in" weight? I mean like, do you weigh the bird gutted out and cleaned and consider that the final processed weight, like a roaster you would get at the grocery store? Pardon my ignorance.

I’m a little behind on BYC ...

but earlier my wife turned me and the cat out for the night and went to bed...

my marching orders were to get the armored ‘diller that has been tearing up the yard ... I nearly had it a few nights ago, but I didn’t want to take an uncertain shot...and then the next morning it had gone full diller tiller through the orange butterfly milkweed seedlings... and tilled up a baby prickly pear...😡

This of course meant war...

and we still had lily killing voles loose... since kitten raising took priority over mousing...

So tonight ‘Eleanor the cat’ and I found ourselves standing on the sidewalk, wishing each other a ‘good hunt’ and then we went our separate ways...

The yard owl was posted up watching the front yard and I gave her a tip of the hat as I went by, but she didn’t even move as I slipped around to the side of the house, and then I caught the diller red handed ruining a flower bed 🤨

it slipped off into the woods a bit ... and I just waited and listened (Eleanor has learned me up on this cat and mouse stuff) ... and after a bit the deed was done...

As I returned back to the sidewalk I was surprised to see Eleanor still sitting there, and told her so...

ten minutes later as I was watching kitten mania wind down in the garage... Eleanor came ‘roaring’ into the garage... almost literally ... and dropped a vole at my feet...

She told me all about the hunt, told me how she was the best mouser in the county, told me how she’d take down a dog in Mickey Mouse ears if one happened into the yard, then she meowed ‘King Kong ain’t got nuthin on me!!!’

Lol, she really was fired up and extra vocal...

then she tossed the vole in the air and caught it a couple times and then took it into the ‘thunder dome’ aka kitten play pen...

one of the little monsters jumped on it immediately...

Then my favorite, the runt who displays extraordinary mouser tendencies, gave it a proper ‘what for’

Then one of my wife’s favorite ‘cuddle bugs’ went full mouser on it

Then Eleanor fed the babies and afterward disposed of the evidence head first once the kittens had piled up in the corner...

I took a nap, but now I’m waiting up to catch the ‘ghost diller’... some folks say that dillers are usually in pairs...

But I think once you exterminate one... his ghost still tills the yard all night, unless you get it too 😉

Eleanor is begging to be let out too.... so I guess it’s round two for both of us 🤪
