hey smoothmule, what you hear called "giant" cochins is realy only the differance in good largefowl birds, and hatchery type birds.
you get the "giants" by culling the smaller birds every year and only breeding the very large birds.

takes years to get there, but thats how you get huge birds in largefowl.

The snow blew into the coop the other night... So the next day I put part of a straw bale in front of the pop door so they would have more protection... guess what they did...

Yep it's all over the coop and not blocking the door. But it kept them busy yesterday so I didn't have to worry about anyone getting pecked on out of boredom!

Also been feeding them a 10 grain mush to warm up thier little bellies... they love it!

So what is 10 grain mush sounds interestin// Yea a bale is always a good source of entertainment for the little chickies~

I got my first green egg today from my EE hen and also one from my little polish hen!! First ones are always so little and cute!!

How is everybody else here in Mo doing today!! Having a small warmup compared to over the weekend

It's actually a Bob's Red Mill 10 grain cereal I bought for me and haven't been eating. I got it in the "healthy" food section of the grocery store. It is the consitency of mush when cooked. They really liked it.

I have 3 standard blue and 1 standard black cochin. My black one is a hen, 1 of the blues is a roo and of course 2 hens. I have them in with other large fowl so I have never had any pure cochins LF's. I hope to have a seperate house and run for them this spring. My roo and one of the blue hens are a few years old and they are the best type.

I have a pair of Standard Buff Cochins available that came from Sandhill Preservation that are 8 weeks old. That is if my father-in-law doesn't take them.
