My daughter and I are taking care of the neighbor’s dog and cats while she has been gone for a week. She comes back tonight. The dog lives in an outdoor kennel 24/7, and has developed an eye infection. We tried using Rx antibiotic eye ointment that our vet had prescribed for our cats a while back. Twice a day for 3 days so far. Also used Vetericyn eye wash. Seemed to help at first, but it’s looking worse this morning. Our other neighbor says infections could have other causes, like virus, fungus, allergies etc, and that may be why antibiotic didn’t work. We never discussed what to do in an emergency. I am kind of distressed over this, but I guess it’s in the owner’s hands at this point. 😟

Our new pup moved in today, he's anatolian and pyrenees mix. Going to be a hoss of a dog. Hes in my basset hounds den, taking over.

So how does one go about training a guardian pup? Does he start on the job from day one, or do you have to confine him or?
I am interested in getting one myself, we’ve had too many raccoons about lately. But what if a little pup confronted a raccoon? I’d be worried it would get hurt….
There are a lot of pups available close by…

This is my second go at training one so I'm far from an expert. The last one came free from a breeder of pet quality guardian dogs, he was already 4/5 months old so we slowly introduced him to all the animals and gave him a little more time with them everyday, he naturally protected everything on the farm. This new one was born in a field with sheep and raised out with sheep until 3 days ago and now it's with my goats, I just introduced him to all the goats put him down and left him, I've been checking every once in awhile to make sure he's not running off, he's exceptionally calm. Will probably have him sleep inside until he's a few months older. My little guy is the size of a small coon already but so sweet and gentle, he wouldn't know what to do. I'm hoping his instincts kick in when it's time. He's young enough he should bond to our animals no problem
