calling any one from missouri

I am pleased to announce that I finally have a hen gone broody! Last summer was filled with broodies, all of which I didn’t want, off to broody jail they went, one after another. I decided that this summer I would give this one some eggs, this is Violetta, mother of our rooster Jude. I was waiting for her to be broody. I gave her 4 eggs yesterday, eggs from the half Spitzhauben hens. So they will be 3/4 Spitzhauben, 1/4 Sebright. IMG_4816.jpeg

I've got a broody raising 3 chicks right now. It's my favorite way to do chicks.
Yes, me too. I really believe that it’s best for chicks to imprint on a mama hen, and not on humans. ESPECIALLY cockerels. I think the majority of rooster aggression issues may come from having imprinted on humans. IMHO—if anyone has experienced otherwise, I am open to changing my mind! 🙃
So this is why I waited and waited for a broody this year. I need an understudy for the rooster…..and want him raised by a hen within the flock. And I’ll keep any pullets, but only 1 boy. We have 4 eggs incubating under the hen.

I have a guinea hen with 4 chicks she hatched, a hen with 6 she hatched and at least 1 more hen on eggs (she's on 12 so we will see). Hoping for a couple more. The hens are saipan, Dominique, miniature American gamefowl, standard American gamefowl. The chicks are even more mixed with some having Easter Egger as a father and a few with brahma as mothers.
