calling any one from missouri

Where Y meets Holmes, that's Cleveland. One blinking light, one gas station, bank and post office. Don't blink or you'll miss it! I'm about 3 miles south of there.

I used to raise Quarter ponies and I still have my home bred stallion and two mares. One coming three yr old filly, an old Arabian gelding and an ANCIENT Quarter Horse gelding. He'll be 28 years old on April 1st. I've had him since he was a long yearling... LOVE him. I grew up trail riding bareback and eventually started using a western saddle. As an adult I was introduced to english and jumping... which is fun. I usually ride my stud in an english saddle just because I like the way it fits him. I used to ride ALL THE TIME. But not so much anymore. I've never been competitive, I just enjoy being around them. LOVE working with foals! Some of my babies have gone on to competitive barns though. My pride and joy really is my stud though. He doesn't do much these days but when I rode fairly regularly, he was such an angel no one believed he was a stallion unless they looked! LOL! I think the thing I love the most about him is that he can go for months or even over a year just chillin in the pasture, and when I catch him for a ride... there's no warming him up first. I just saddle him up and go. I'd live in a ditch before I'd even CONSIDER giving him up.

I've had chickens forever.. not competitive with them either. I just love their antics... and the eggs. I got my first blue egg from one of my EE's today! I'll tell you what though, I've become so smitten with my Faverolles that I could see me bringing some to a fair one day!

We'll have to get together when the weather gets nice. I've got baby goats on the way in the next week or so. With a couple more does due to kid in the beginning of February. Always fun stuff!

Awesome. I sent you a PM. Never heard of a flaverolles.

I've raised all my chickens the same. I have 43 and all but 9 of them were hatched beginning of July. They've lived as a giant flock... everyone treated the same. The Faverolles cockerels decided that they were TAME and let me know in no uncertain terms that they expected the most attention. They're always under my feet, or hopping in the feed bag while I'm trying to do chores. And my favorite (shhh, don't tell the others) follows me away from the flock when I feed them to get his own private hand feeding in the grain room! I didn't lure him away... he decided this was going to be the routine.

This is him... Angus

I've also noticed that this is the tamest flock of chickens I've ever had. I SWEAR they've all seen how those Faverolles are around me and have decided that I'm just part of the flock. When I try to chill out there I almost always end up with birds jumping up on me. That NEVER happened before unless I hand raised one.
He's a handsome fellow! Ours follow us around and "help" if we are in the garden. They and the CL are the most hawk vigilant and do the best at "hiding". The Brahmas are just large and lovely and "taste testers" for everything. One of our Faverolles, Kiwi, is actually our flock leader and is hilarious to watch putting bigger birds in their place!

Hi Everyone, I have been around this board for awhile, but only in Missouri since August. I live on a 33 acre farm right outside Eldon about 30 miles from Jeff City. I have several chickens of all breeds, a RP turkey, 4 ducks and 3 Guinea. I have 4 new chicks and 6 in my incubator. I am waiting on some eggs to be shipped to me to put in my larger incubator that hubby gave me for Christmas. Glad to have found this group. Hope everyone is staying warm.

Hi, neighbor!! I live just outside Eldon too!! Welcome to MO!

Hi everyone! We are located in NW Missouri, outside of a tiny town called Winston. We are about an hour north of KC and 10 mins north of Cameron. We are just starting up our Ameraucana flock. Right now we have 12 eggs in the incubator, 12 eggs coming the first week of Feb, and 28 chicks (day old) coming the first week of April.

Welcome Azure Acres. I know about where you are. I use to have an uncle that had a large farm in Cameron years ago where he raised hogs and cattle. Been many, many years since I've been up that way. Also, my grandparents lived in White Cloud Kansas, which is about 30 minutes north of St. Joe. Good luck with your flock. It sounds like you have a good start.

Hi there chiknhurder, we're practically neighbors! I'm about 15 minutes south west of Peculiar. I've got 43 birds including RIR, SLW, EE, Australorp, Buff Orpington, Light Brahma, Partridge Rock, White Giant, Black Star, Barred Rock mixes, and my new favorites... LF Salmon Faverolles! Oh, and 3 guineas. I'm sure I'm missing a few breeds in my list here... it's quite a hodge podge.

I've also got horses, goats, llamas. :)
What kind of goats?

I have the goats but I'M the only old one. LOL! I have one Alpine/Nubian mix doe. The rest are either meat goats (Boar/Savanna) or pygmy mix pet goats. My sister has a herd of dairy goats though. I don't think she has anymore full blood Nubians. She prefers her Nubian mixes for milking. She makes cheese, yogurt, Kefir, etc. People don't realize how good goat milk is. It's naturally sweet (unlike store bought cows' milk which is sweetened), and it's easier on your system than cows' milk. Love the stuff! That's why I got a doeling from my sister so I can have my OWN milk goat. She's almost two years old and pregnant now so it will still be a bit before I have my milk supply, but it's worth the wait!

This is one of my girls Mette. She and a few of my pullets were hanging out in a warm, sunny spot in the goat shed this winter. They were too cute lying together.

This was the scene before the barred rock mix layed down next to her. LOL!
