calling any one from missouri

I used to keep several varieties of polish. Not predator proof enough for me though.

You'll find many breeders around Missouri here.

I think most people jump in before doing their breed research and get what the feed store/TSC have or what a couple people mention as their favorites.
Since there are hundreds of breeds, it stands to reason that there are many many more good breeds than just BOs, RIRs, Barred Rocks and Black Sex-link.
Thank you so much for all the information ChickenCanoe it is wonderful!
I found someone on the list that is about 35 miles from me and will be giving them a call. It would be nice to speak with someone about the Cochin breed that has vested interest in them. I've read the Cochin International website before, when I was researching the breed before I purchased them. At the time I had no idea the difference between hatchery and breeder. Now that I know I plan on becoming a member of Cochin International as soon as things calm down around here, we've had a very busy summer.

Again thank you so much for all your information I have been reading more about the Cochin breed as well as a few others.

Where can I find an official person who can tell my husband the law about catching and releasing raccoons? He doesn't listen to me and wants to release it in a state park a few miles away from us. We have not caught it yet. We bought the trap yesterday and set it. We caught one chicken and 3 cats over night. The chicken before dark. LOL I think we are going to have to catch the cats and lock them up to get the raccoon.

I don't know the official law for MO, but I've heard that it is best to go ahead and kill the offender as in general they have large ranges and can come back. Then there is the problem of them causing problems for other chicken people elsewhere. And the problem of dropping them off somewhere else means they have to find food there and fight for territory with the others of their kind.

Call the department of conservation. There's your official.
The last paragraph will help.

A raccoons' territory is so large, it probably knows its way back home but if it doesn't, it will create problems for native wildlife or put your husband's problem in someone else's backyard, distribute disease to the population in the state park, be killed by resident wildlife, be unable to find a den due to unfamiliarity or it will kill the native population in order to survive.

I'm not trying to be mean but those that are soft hearted toward an invasive successful predator that don't want to kill it are misguided.

Exactly on both points. He doesn't think it would come back and I guess he figures it would have to fight for food where ever it is so what's the difference. I just want it dead after it came back and got the same chicken it had attacked the night before.

Ok, I read the page and talked to my husband and told him that we either need to kill it or live with it. In order to live with it, the coop has got to be made more comfortable for my chickens. It is hot in there at night, until early in the morning when it finally cools off. We bought a fan and put in the window but it was still hot in there.

Last night they didn't want to go into the coop and we chased/herded them for over 2 hours to get them into the coop. I can't blame them, even with the fan it was hot. Since they didn't want to go into the coop last night, they are staying in the run today. I normally let them free range and I hate to keep them locked up but last night they would went around and around and around the run. They may have to stay in the run until the raccoon is caught. I still plan on catching it and then bringing the fight to my husband. I will do my best to kill it. I want it gone and hope to heaven there are no mates, kits or other raccoons in the vicinity.
