calling any one from missouri

Ok, I read the page and talked to my husband and told him that we either need to kill it or live with it. In order to live with it, the coop has got to be made more comfortable for my chickens. It is hot in there at night, until early in the morning when it finally cools off. We bought a fan and put in the window but it was still hot in there.

Last night they didn't want to go into the coop and we chased/herded them for over 2 hours to get them into the coop. I can't blame them, even with the fan it was hot. Since they didn't want to go into the coop last night, they are staying in the run today. I normally let them free range and I hate to keep them locked up but last night they would went around and around and around the run. They may have to stay in the run until the raccoon is caught. I still plan on catching it and then bringing the fight to my husband. I will do my best to kill it. I want it gone and hope to heaven there are no mates, kits or other raccoons in the vicinity.
Get up and shoot the coon in the trap before he wakes up. Done deal.

Don't you have big windows in the coop? My coops are the same temp as the ambient air. They do have lots of shade though. If you don't have the coop in the shade, hang shade cloth over it till you can plant some trees.

I am the farthest southwest of all of us i think. I feel alone down here
Are you in the bootheel?

;)

has anybody here ever been to the Tri point monument in southwest city. If you stand there you are in Missouri, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. its neat just to say you were there.

I like those places. I've been to the 4 corners (UT, CO, AZ, NM) and the spot where SC, NC and GA meet.

LOL Hmmm, he keeps the guns locked up. He doesn't like the idea of me shooting it but if he can't, I will. It took off with the trap last night. He found it a long ways from where he left it. Tonight he has staked it down like I told him in the first place and we put a can of cat food in it. Although I told him to get fish, he got liver. I hope the coon feels like liver tonight. Also, it sprinkled tonight, anyone know if the coon will come out with it wet outside?

No, just one big window and small vents on either end of the building. The chicken opening (door) is across from the window and the door we use is very large and on the same side as the window. I prop it open when I let them forage. I let them run loose today but they all stayed pretty close to the coop. I think maybe they heard the coon last night and it must have made a lot of noise dragging that trap away. The coop has trees at both ends of the building and trees surrounding the run. Only one tree hangs over the run but the trees at each end are touching the coop roof. There is plenty of walking space around the run otherwise. The trees give shade from the east and in the afternoon most of the run is in the sun but like I said there is one tree, on the west side of the coop that is close to the fence so they get shade there in the afternoon if they so choose.

It was cool today and yesterday and the prediction for tomorrow is cool too so I don't need the fan right now.

they have geode mines in northwest missouri dont they? Have any of you ever went digging for them>? My wife wants to so we probably will, Anybody have any recommendations?
There are some up by the Mark Twain cave, our 4H group went about 3 years ago, hard work your digging in mud or hard dirt, we had mud and what a mess....We had fun my daughter would do it again, I don't know if I would. There are some things that you only need to do once!
