Get up and shoot the coon in the trap before he wakes up. Done deal.Ok, I read the page and talked to my husband and told him that we either need to kill it or live with it. In order to live with it, the coop has got to be made more comfortable for my chickens. It is hot in there at night, until early in the morning when it finally cools off. We bought a fan and put in the window but it was still hot in there.
Last night they didn't want to go into the coop and we chased/herded them for over 2 hours to get them into the coop. I can't blame them, even with the fan it was hot. Since they didn't want to go into the coop last night, they are staying in the run today. I normally let them free range and I hate to keep them locked up but last night they would went around and around and around the run. They may have to stay in the run until the raccoon is caught. I still plan on catching it and then bringing the fight to my husband. I will do my best to kill it. I want it gone and hope to heaven there are no mates, kits or other raccoons in the vicinity.
Don't you have big windows in the coop? My coops are the same temp as the ambient air. They do have lots of shade though. If you don't have the coop in the shade, hang shade cloth over it till you can plant some trees.
Are you in the bootheel?I am the farthest southwest of all of us i think. I feel alone down here

has anybody here ever been to the Tri point monument in southwest city. If you stand there you are in Missouri, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. its neat just to say you were there.
I like those places. I've been to the 4 corners (UT, CO, AZ, NM) and the spot where SC, NC and GA meet.
