calling any one from missouri

I killed my first skunk yesterday (I won't give you "how-to" the details). Usually we let them go because of the stink they create when killed, but I lost 5 in a matter of hours so I wasn't in a forgiving mood. I don't think the skunk did it (he was too small) and hubby and I are sitting outside in the evening waiting for it to come back to eat lead instead of chicken (coon, fox, something big that would be able to carry two hens because I haven't found their bodies). Anyway, hubby leaves a 22 for me to use to kill things in traps.
We bought a 2-3 foot piece of rebar to anchor the trap (it sticks up thru the holes in the wire)...keeps the trap in place, and critter can't knock it around trying to escape. Liver should entice a coon. They like eating heads and guts. Cat food is suppose to be a big draw and lots of cat foods have liver in it. Good luck catching your predator.

Caught a coon last night and my husband went all goo-goo over it. I told him to load the pistol and I'd take care of it but he wouldn't and I don't know how to load it. Anyways, I told him that if he's not going to kill it and won't let me kill it then he needed to call the Conservation people and find out what to do with it. I thought they would tell him that we should kill it for killing our animals or that if he wanted to release it that it had to be released back here on our property. (Which is/was not an option.)

Shockingly, they didn't. They told him that there are designated places where a trapped animal can be released. Busick state park is down the road from us and it is one of the designated spots. So, guess what he did with the coon. Also, he now thinks our chicken killing problem is solved. I have told him what I have learned here on BYC, that where there is one coon, there are more. I don't think he believes me but my chickens are still going to be locked up at night.

welcome to the MO thread, there are a lot of friends here on BYC that enjoy a computer chat but that does not take the place of having someone drop by for a cup of coffee to hear my roosters crow, you are about two hours south of my porch.

oooop... Did you know that the highest point in missouri is an inactive volcano!? I just found that out today and thought it was too neat. its called Taum Sauk Caldera

With any luck, it will be months before another critter finds your coop & chickens.

Fat chance. More than likely there are several coons and possums patrolling her yard every night.

We used to have a farm near there and visited it several times. The Ozarks is the oldest mountain range in the US.
On the topic of volcanoes, another place I've been to a lot is Costa Rica. It's a tiny country the size of West Virginia yet has over 100 inactive volcanoes in three volcanic ranges including 6 active volcanoes. I've been to the crater of two of them; Poas, Irazu and I've seen the eruptions of Arenal.
