calling any one from missouri

I'm a navy brat , we were stationed in iceland for several years they had a couple eruptions while we were there but I was so young I have no recollection. I think it would be neat to go to the missouri one at least once.

Thats where I'm from...the Kansas side...love it down here...but didn't know you could have chickens in kc...it will always be my home ...

Hello tinyhouse people in McDonald County MO! alldembirds. My mothers family is from McD county, and dads family is from Joplin and AR. I thought I would pop into the MO thread....as I am from Kansas City MO myself. Not much happening out here in the SC thread.

Quote: We can always hope. At my place, it seems to be months between attacks if you catch the one that did it. I had 5 killed last week, afterwards, caught a tiny skunk and a huge turkey buzzard in my traps. I don't believe either one of those attacked my chickens (skunk too small and turkey buzzards go for dead animals-not living) but whatever it was, it hasn't come back around. A little over a month earlier, something killed and ate the heads of two ducks. The next night, caught and killed a coon. Was predator free for a while but it is time for something new to come around. I seem to get a breather but I also try to do everything I can to discourage the predators at night. It's the daytime ones that are harder to protect against. I haven't caught the latest killer yet but so far it hasn't been interested in dead chicken.

My son's Boy Scout troop camps at Taum Sauk often. I didn't know it was an extinct volcano. Interesting.

Welcome Athena! I'm in the Houston area.

Taum Sauk mountain is more of a high wooded knoll. I never saw evidence of a crater and there probably isn't one. Even though it's the highest point in Missouri you would never know it by the terrain. There are a lot more impressive peaks in MO albeit lower in elevation.
The same can be said of the continental divide in Wyoming. I envisioned a very mountainous area. It's just a very high plain. Kind of like 'High Plains Drifter' country. Nary a mountain in sight.

With any luck, it will be months before another critter finds your coop & chickens.

Wouldn't that be nice? LOL Problem is, we only had one disappearing now and then, maybe one every 3 to 6 months and then this coon comes along and it is every night or every other night. I can't afford to share that much. So, I'm thinking whatever used to get one periodically is still out there and may become active again with the coon gone. Assuming that there was only one coon.

When we bought the trap, the feed store had some bead like stuff that you are supposed to sprinkle on the ground to ward the ground predators off. He asked if my chickens ate it would it hurt them and they said no but I still didn't buy it, I don't want to just take their word for it.
