Quote: We can always hope. At my place, it seems to be months between attacks if you catch the one that did it. I had 5 killed last week, afterwards, caught a tiny skunk and a huge turkey buzzard in my traps. I don't believe either one of those attacked my chickens (skunk too small and turkey buzzards go for dead animals-not living) but whatever it was, it hasn't come back around. A little over a month earlier, something killed and ate the heads of two ducks. The next night, caught and killed a coon. Was predator free for a while but it is time for something new to come around. I seem to get a breather but I also try to do everything I can to discourage the predators at night. It's the daytime ones that are harder to protect against. I haven't caught the latest killer yet but so far it hasn't been interested in dead chicken.
My son's Boy Scout troop camps at Taum Sauk often. I didn't know it was an extinct volcano. Interesting.
