calling any one from missouri

Hello and welcome from Northeastern Missouri. I'm starting my flock in 8 weeks! Not that I'm counting down my chick arrival or anything

I'm going with Orpingtons also along with Bantams just for fun. Plymouth Rocks are great birds. You will really like them.

I'm sure your not counting down.
Just like I didn't count down the days and loose sleep from the day they were shipped till I finally got my little puff balls!
Soooo worth it =)
Yeah, I know.

I contacted the breeder this week with questions about what feed they use and their stance on using probiotics/electrolytes in their chick's water so I could get started getting things gathered up for their arrival. My brooder is ready except for the yellow and blue bulbs I still have to buy. I figured I would mix and match 75 and 40 watt bulbs since I have a two outlet light unit that my husband gave me to use. It's actually a photography unit that he used to use. My brooder is made from Coroplast and is large enough to accommodate them for at least 3-4 weeks before heaven knows what I'm going to do with the little boogers.

I'm planning to post a pic once my chicks are safely nestled into their new home.

It's sort of like expecting a new baby...get the nursery ready, get a new bed, gather up the equipment.....no labor pains, thank goodness!

I ended up with a White Top Black Crested Polish Roo I don't need in a package deal. Really nice looking boy, Bright red bow tie wattles, midnight black with a nice big bright white top hat - very striking. Clean bird, very good condition, appears quite healthy and sound. In quarantine here. Any interest? PM with questions. 65452 Ft. Leonard Wood area.

We never gave medicated feed. I know it isn't gluten free but we started with 28% game bird feed which is never medicated. We chose this because
of the higher protein available. I have always used ACVM (apple cider vinegar with mother) which is organic in their drinking water.
Like Edencamp I keep vitamins/electrolytes, and probiotics on hand all the time. I also keep reading the Natural Keeping Chicken thread. They have provided
a great deal of information on keeping an emergency kit for injuries, broken bones etc...
I kept my chickens on the game bird feed about 3 weeks longer then suggested but during that time I slowly added a mix of gluten free seed until they were completely
switched over.
I think medicated or non-medicated is the choice to be made and everyone has their own thoughts which is what makes us all wonderfully unique human beings =) .
