We went to Paris Mo today to visit McGrumpy and I got a beautiful black LF Cochin rooster. He has a gorgeous green like sheen to his black feathers. His waddle and combs are in excellent condition. I'm just so excited to have him I can't wait for the 30 day quarantine to be up so I can start letting him free range. But then we do have snow on the ground so it's a good time for it.
Now I have to think of a name for him.

Congratulations on the new rooster, Potagergirl. Hope he works out for you.

I'm at 7 weeks and counting till I get my chicks. YAY! I'm tired of walking by my brooder and seeing it empty and not hearing 'peep peep peep!' from them.

Hens are laying better and better now, I'll start collecting eggs to hatch starting next weekend, can't wait to hatch out some new Marans babies!! Gonna fire up the 'bator in the next couple days, so exciting!!

I am thinking of collecting eggs today, there is still a snow day in the ten day forecast but high temperatures are reasonable. Nice time of the year !!!! One of my australorp pullets laid her first egg yesterday. I turned off the light in the egg barn and production slowed. Checked out the daylight chart and my location will be up to 14 hours the middle of March. Three Brahma pullets, waiting for their first eggs. The roosters are ready and waiting in the pen next door.
