calling any one from missouri

Yeah, that's too far.
You can start your own group if you know locals that have chickens. Meetup just modified their cost structure this year with two scales. It's not expensive for small groups.
Or you could just do a facebook or simple local group with e-mail.

thank you chickencanoe I was hoping someone from the group would chime in.

and yes I forgot to mention the mo yearbook I always forget about it.

taxes on my chickens?? I had no idea

I claim my chickens on my property taxes...25 for just a couple of bucks (I already sent my form in and don't remember how much exactly but it wasn't much). The worse part of claiming them, IMO, was the next year when they sent a farm form. I don't have the full agricultural gamut of tractors and barns. I only have the chickens and their little house on my acre.

I had no idea I was supposed to claim livestock. I know the feed store does not charge me taxes on feed. I buy 1500 lbs at a time. Does this only apply to businesses or to everyone? One of the reasons I left Illinois and moved to Missouri was to lower my tax bill.

Yep, they appear on the back of our assessment list under livestock. middle column. They also list turkeys, emus and ostriches.

Paying personal property taxes is a bite but compared with what we were paying in property taxes when we lived in IL, there is no comparison. We smile and write the check.

I think it has to do with whether or not your property is considered agriculture/farmland for you to be able to write it off as a loss or profit on your income taxes along with depreciation of equipment such as tractors and implements. I was talking to our accountants secretary yesterday and she was rattling stuff off to me about a new form that has to be filled out this year concerning our equipment, tractors, etc, and is a one shot form, blah blah blah. I don't even try to understand it. If you are selling eggs in a large quantity or chickens as a business you to check into it though. A loss is a loss.

I find it funny that geese are not mentioned specifically although they do have a category called 'exotic birds'. Geese exotic? Nah. I wouldn't consider quail exotic either although maybe peacocks and guineas fall into that category.

We get ours at the same time we get our property taxes in a seperatemailing. It's been so long that I can't remember how it was the first year out.

It's due March 1st in Macon Co.
