calling any one from missouri

snowing here but it's already 27 :))) My buff orpington laid it's first egg the day before yesterday. I am getting two eggs a day, mine seem to lay right at sunrise

Congrats on the first egg, it's the most amazing one for sure. Mine start at 4:30am about 1/2 hour after they wake up. Usually done by 9:00am.

Congrats! No eggs out there @ about 9am. Had a pretty blue one yesterday that I found about 3pm. 3 hens that have started laying in the last couple weeks so still small eggs and mostly frozen when I find them. The barred rock is laying more than the EE's.

Anyone know where to get barley in SEMO? No one in Poplar Bluff sells it. I want to sprout it for the chickens. I'm sprouting wheat now.

I bought some at a natural food store or I can get it from a middle eastern grocery here in the KC metro, nothing in the feed stores though. I can't even find milo l or oats like I used to be able to up in St Joe area for the horses. Only chopped up corn.

We got up to 32º this afternoon. In spite of that, the girls who have braved 5º and worse all stayed in the coop until I swept away some of the snow. Little Cochin cockerel in his snowsuit didn't mind.
This is how much snow and how many eggs we got....I haven't gotten 3 eggs in one day since the fall-- eggs and snow.jpg before they all went into molt-- including the pullets.

Our snow melted off just the other day, but today we got maybe 2 inches. It's snowing right now too.

I was looking online for places that sell used/recycled building materials and such. Didn't find much in my area, but for those of you out towards KC (Pleasant Hill)

, I found this lumber that looks to be a great deal. If it were closer I would go get some wood. A whole pallet of 2" x 2" x 4' untreated wood. Looks like they have a lot of pallets available. I put the link in the screen shot.

edited to add: they have some other lumber available also

Hi Joe! Yeah, I don't think they are liking the cold too much. My rooster quit crowing when the weather changed, otherwise he's been fine. Seemed to enjoy a long warm snuggle the other day. I crowed out the window the other day and he returned the crow -- about 10 times! lol
Lol
One of my roosters is definitely having a rough winter. His first cold season and he's got frostbite :barnie
