Just got home from doing some work in the industrial park and Veronica was standing tall. I fixed her a boiled egg yolk crushed up and while I was fixing a fresh bowl of mash she was eating the egg yolk! Gave her the bowl of mash and she is chowing down on it! Whew I think she is out of the cellar now. I think she needs to spend one more night in the chicken hilton private accommodations.

Hi All,
Posting in the MO thread on recommendation from my introduction thread...

We're now moving to St Louis at the end of June (6/29). Unfortunately, the deal we had to buy a house fell apart, which means that I don't have a place to bring the flock to.

Is anyone in the St Louis area willing to watch my four hens until we find new housing? (I would hope 4-6 wks max, but it could be longer). They are not freeloading chickens and are happy to pay rent.

Thanks

Yesterday I moved broody and chicks into their new pen. Their nest box had mites, so I had to quickly get them out and treat the area(s). I put the unhatched egg in with them, but Mom abandoned it. It was started 1 1/2 days after the others, and so it was surely going to hatch. I held it and heard it peeping....
I brought the egg into the house and improvised a hatcher using a heating pad. It hatched this morning! Now I have a smaller baby I hope Mama and siblings will accept.
#4 later.jpg Not sure yet how to do this.....

Keep us posted on that for sure.

What did you use to treat for mites?

Update on Veronica, I started treating her with probiotics (which seems to be the best thing to do) today. Actually I made a gallon so everyone is getting some. She is eating and drinking better but still has diarrhea. She is talking to me now so she must be feeling a little better. She might get one more night in the Chicken Hilton dunno gotta wait and see what her poop looks like this afternoon.

Does anyone know what that first bloom is? It came up volunteer in my flower pot by my dog pen. It looks just like I planted it there! The blooms open when the sun hits it and close when it gets shady.
