calling any one from missouri

Rox, it was so great to meet you this weekend! Your little (well, big comparatively) birdies were all so beautiful! It was so fun to meet another chicken person face to face, and to see just how big my first little babies will eventually get. M2 and Meanie are both gorgeous roos, and your lace brahmas were so impressive!

Chicken math has struck for the first time and I couldn't see it in me to turn away such a great chance! This time, some freebie red broiler chicks! We'll be keeping about half of them.

We have no idea what's what, but this sweetie stuck out like a sore thumb so I'm wondering if it's a cockerel or a pullet:

Also, an update on our little guineas, they're not so little anymore! We're still working on their new house.

Haha I just noticed my spelling error, sorry about that. Yes they are meat birds, here's the description from Cackle Hatchery's page:

"A great alternative to the white commercial Cornish cross chicken. Cackle’s red broiler is slower growing than the commercial Cornish cross chicken but faster growing than the regular heritage chicken breeds. This makes for a great broiler without some of the health issues the commercial Cornish cross might encounter. At 9-10 weeks the males should be at 6 lbs and the females should be at 5 lbs."

Just curious at what its sex was since I can't find any other chicks like it in the box. They're three days old so it's going to be nearly impossible to tell with feather sexing... but I'm going to say he's a male. 50/50 chance of getting it right!

ahh OK. If you only got one male in a broiler batch would be time to get upset.
Notice in the description they are talking eating weight in a matter of a few weeks...
They aren't intending for you to breed them. The cornish X's croak long before the ability.
These don't sound like they'd be all that far behind them.
These are some other cross/combination(s) put together to grow fast and hit the table.

There's probably a lot more males, I just singled that one out because of the odd markings. And I knew they grew fast but I didn't think they would die before breeding!
