calling any one from missouri

Orscheln's is a good source for chicks when starting out but you'll notice a huge difference in birds bread by some of the breeders (not commercial hatcheries). I have Orpingtons from Orcheln's and also from a breeder in Illinois and they are like night and day difference. The one from the breeder is much larger, better colors and beautiful feathering.

Havn't been on in awhile been taking break and just getting spring fever again so figured I would look around and see what was going on. Im in Lonedell, mo about 45 mins from St.louis.
Glad I'm not the only one that gets spring fever. The weather this year getting so cold and then so spring like has really made it worse.

The Missouri Poultry Yearbook is a great resource for NPIP breeders of all types of poultry in MO as well as hatcheries.

Thanks I had already found the yearbook and one of the breeders from St. Joseph are the ones we are going to get the Rhode Island Reds from in March. Half our chickens are from Orchelns and the other half is from local breeder. The RIR from Orchelns lays some of our best eggs. Just saying if it is important to get hens, your not showing or breeding, they have good product, and I am 10 for 10 on hens. None of them qualified to show at the state level.

I live on a little over 2.5 acres in Cass County, just about 20 minutes south of the southern edge of Kansas City, (Raymore/Peculiar). I've got a dozen hens that include French Black & Blue Copper Marans, Buff & Black Orpingtons, Red Sex Links and Barred Rock hens pullets. I have one French Blue Copper Marans rooster and several gardens full of goodies for both myself and the chickens.

Hi there chiknhurder, we're practically neighbors! I'm about 15 minutes south west of Peculiar. I've got 43 birds including RIR, SLW, EE, Australorp, Buff Orpington, Light Brahma, Partridge Rock, White Giant, Black Star, Barred Rock mixes, and my new favorites... LF Salmon Faverolles! Oh, and 3 guineas. I'm sure I'm missing a few breeds in my list here... it's quite a hodge podge.

I've also got horses, goats, llamas. :)

Hi Teresa... Sounds like quite a family. I'll have to come out some time and check it out. You've got a few I'd like to check out. I used to have a work buddy that lived in Cleveland but I've never been there on purpose. His name was Mark Hampshire. Not sure if you'd know him or not. I went to Springhill, Kansas on Wednesday to pick up some feed from Thayer Feeds out of Thayer Kansas. I think I might have gone through Cleveland. I went from YY to Y highway and then down Holmes (D) to 215th street, I think. I remember passing 2 large ranches, one was Wind Ridge Ranch and the other across from it was Broken Lance Ranch.

What kind of horses do you have? Do you ride a lot? Do you show them? Trail rides? Western? English?

I'm actually in between Raymore (1.5 miles) and Peculiar (6 miles) and east of U.S.71 / I-49 Highway in a small rural subdivision. All I have right now are about a dozen hens and a rooster. I'd like to have a horse but none of my place is fenced right now. I'm on 2.6 acres so have room for one or 2. My neighbor has goats and as far as I can tell, no llamas anywhere. ;)

Where Y meets Holmes, that's Cleveland. One blinking light, one gas station, bank and post office. Don't blink or you'll miss it! I'm about 3 miles south of there.

I used to raise Quarter ponies and I still have my home bred stallion and two mares. One coming three yr old filly, an old Arabian gelding and an ANCIENT Quarter Horse gelding. He'll be 28 years old on April 1st. I've had him since he was a long yearling... LOVE him. I grew up trail riding bareback and eventually started using a western saddle. As an adult I was introduced to english and jumping... which is fun. I usually ride my stud in an english saddle just because I like the way it fits him. I used to ride ALL THE TIME. But not so much anymore. I've never been competitive, I just enjoy being around them. LOVE working with foals! Some of my babies have gone on to competitive barns though. My pride and joy really is my stud though. He doesn't do much these days but when I rode fairly regularly, he was such an angel no one believed he was a stallion unless they looked! LOL! I think the thing I love the most about him is that he can go for months or even over a year just chillin in the pasture, and when I catch him for a ride... there's no warming him up first. I just saddle him up and go. I'd live in a ditch before I'd even CONSIDER giving him up.

I've had chickens forever.. not competitive with them either. I just love their antics... and the eggs. I got my first blue egg from one of my EE's today! I'll tell you what though, I've become so smitten with my Faverolles that I could see me bringing some to a fair one day!

We'll have to get together when the weather gets nice. I've got baby goats on the way in the next week or so. With a couple more does due to kid in the beginning of February. Always fun stuff!

Faverolles are such great birds! They are some of (if not THE) favorites here in behavior. The Cream Legbars aren't far behind though! DH loves his GL Brahmas!

I've raised all my chickens the same. I have 43 and all but 9 of them were hatched beginning of July. They've lived as a giant flock... everyone treated the same. The Faverolles cockerels decided that they were TAME and let me know in no uncertain terms that they expected the most attention. They're always under my feet, or hopping in the feed bag while I'm trying to do chores. And my favorite (shhh, don't tell the others) follows me away from the flock when I feed them to get his own private hand feeding in the grain room! I didn't lure him away... he decided this was going to be the routine.

This is him... Angus

I've also noticed that this is the tamest flock of chickens I've ever had. I SWEAR they've all seen how those Faverolles are around me and have decided that I'm just part of the flock. When I try to chill out there I almost always end up with birds jumping up on me. That NEVER happened before unless I hand raised one.
