calling any one from missouri

The ticks are one of the reasons I wanted chickens. Last year they were so bad in our yard and timber that even Deep Woods Off didn't deter them. I get tired of taking antibiotics. My husband wondered if we needed Guineas instead of chickens as they are reputed to be pure death on ticks. I said that we would try chickens first.

why I got guineas....the ticks were so bad last year you couldn't walk outside without becoming covered in the little tiny seed ticks....dang, their bites feel like fire! Guineas range all over, including the neighbors on both sides, glad they don't mind!

Not that I'm ready for this but gathering info for the future...do you have to do/have anything specific/special to sell chicks you've hatched?

last year I sold extra pullets on Craig's list (I took pictures), I had to eat the cockerels, not a bad thing. so....this year I need to limit the numbers I hatch, it is easy to have a freezer full.

...
Just a reminder I like to put out to all this time of the year. It's tick season again. Please remember to douse yourself with your chemical of choice when you are out and about. Lyme and other tick born illnesses are real and not fun to deal with if you happen to get bit by a carrier tick. I know. I was diagnosed with Lyme in 2010 and it has left me with probably permanent neurological problems that I will have to deal with for the rest of my life. So be safe and take care to check yourself for the little blood suckers if you are out in tall grass or timber.

And remember, Chickens and Guineas love ticks.
Fortunately, there are almost never ticks or chiggers here. I don't miss them. The farm where I grew up near Fredericktown was loaded. I was a tick and chigger magnet.
Our neighbor had free range chickens that worked his yard and it was like a little oasis of tick free space.

I think everyone. When building wants to put in one nest box per hen but they do like to use the same one so less is ok.Nice to have one though Some of mine dont. If they are the only girl I just put lot of straw in they build a nest.Tractor or small coop though.
all the buildings for adults have sufficient nests. If I don't get pullets moved out of the brooder house before they start laying I have a 5 gallon bucket on its side with the lid on but half cut off and filled with straw and they all lay in there. Occasionally they'll find another hiding place.

No one pays attention to it for in-state sales but even those are supposed to be from NPIP flocks.

I got home after getting rained out at work after driving through some pretty heavy rain and saw my garden area.

I checked rain gauge, we got 2.5 inches in the first hour and another inch in the next. And, its starting to rain again.

First time since 1993 It flooded.

I spent an hour last night tilling up a area about 30' x 50' , and covered it plastic to keep it dry. (what a joke that was). Thankfully I didn't have anything planted yet, and wont any time soon I guess
