calling any one from missouri

Hey my Missouri neighbors! Anyone around KC who likes to swap Bantam eggs/ chicks? I promise you won’t be supporting any addiction of mine, I barely have any chickens at all. :lau

My swaps would all be Japanese or Jap crosses, if anyone is interested.

I have always loved the seasons, but being my first year with chickens during winter I'm not liking it that much. It's me -- I just feel sorry for them. I have the heated dog bowls too and they are frosty above the water line. They do the job though and keep the water itself from freezing.

Congrats on your new years eggs! Where do you keep your chickens while building their coop?

The coop is built though still needs some finishing--ie the windows so they open and close (boarded over right now) , the nest box, a permanent roost, and I'm not happy with the doors so they need some revising. The run is framed but not fenced and the roof is just plywood. It will have metal roofing. A bout of lingering bronchitis prevented me from finishing it totally before the weather turned cold. They are currently confined to the coop, I wish I could allow them outside but it isn't safe. This spring I will get it completed. There is plenty of ventilation at the top of the coop for winter the windows are to allow the breeze and sunshine in during warm months on the west and north side.

Speaking of Silkies...
Does anyone Raise White silkies in Central Mo?
I'm interested in a Bearded White Rooster.
I'm 20 North of Bolivar.

Ok, now I kinda remember that. I'm sure they are fine. It's a lot of working putting together a coop and run. I'm still trying to get the in-coop brooder finished for my 1-1/2 and 2-1/2 month old chicks who are currently living in my kitchen. I cut some wood in the garage the other day, but had to quit because my feet were like blocks of ice.

Although the coop I have is sturdy and sufficient, I think I would still like to build something new from scratch. Something with a larger, taller pen would be nice.

I think my Silkie rooster,Pierre, likes the cold....
He crows more than he did in the Fall.View attachment 1227826

Aww... Pierre is cute. My rooster seems to have stopped crowing since the weather turned so cold. Are you looking for bantam silkies? Cackle Hatchery has the bantams https://www.cacklehatchery.com/baby-chicks/bantam-chickens.html

Sorry not me on sikies. Pierre is adorable. My Roo thinks he's the best and crows all different times of the day. I'm going to miss him when Steven finally takes him to his new home. I'm sure my neighbors won't. Another frozen cracked pink egg today. Hope the warm spell results in some to actually eat!
