calling any one from missouri

Before everyone molted, they were laying eggs in the new double wide nest I call The Royal Suite, and some were also fond of the wicker laundry basket. Now I have 6 who have resumed laying and suddenly they all want to lay in the little plastic milk crate which was put there for the bantams (who haven't resumed laying yet.) They are fighting and arguing over the milk crate. I changed the hay in all nests. That didn't make any difference. I added another identical milk crate. No dice. In the past 7 days, I've gotten 22 eggs, and all but 3 were in that milk crate.

I'm a newbie but think chickens have their own priorities and us humans have trouble changing them ;D

I spent all pm rearranging the coop. I removed the wicker basket nest and put the milk crates side by side, but I put the "new" one where the favorite had been. I am curious which they will choose. I removed a roost, added a better situated one and uncovered another that held a shelf. The chickens were so curious and wanted to inspect everything. They are undaunted by the noise of hammering, drilling, impact driver, staple gun etc. My DH let our little kitty in, he adores the chickens. He snooped around and decided to take a nap in THE milk crate. Top hen let him know that was not OK. All today's eggs were in that crate, before I moved it.
I now have room in the coop for an integration pen for the new chicks.
I just love doing this stuff. What a nice warm day, in spite of the ferocious wind.
