calling any one from missouri

I would imagine that you will get at least another 1 or 2 chickies to join your early bird:fl

Well we had one more hatch today.... I looked before I ran to town and it was still covered in omelet juice... when I got back it was all dry but out of the nest box ... just like the other one that I thought had just fallen out.

I have their nests elevated about a foot... probably a mistake... but I’m wondering now if the hen is kicking them out?

Brought this little one inside too... it looks pretty much just like the first.

Btw... lol at your turkey spying!

Congratulations on the second chick! I think you may be correct and the hen is kicking the chicks out. At least she isn't harming/killing them. I'm glad you are finding them before they are getting too cold!
A funny thing about the turkey spying... I think she tricked me! I went out later to look for eggs where she had been... and there weren't any!!! :barnie
So, I don't know if she is laying (I think she must be otherwise why would she go hide out every morning for a while??) or what is going on.

Finally got some Oriole pics yesterday...

Well at day 21 of setting eggs under our broodies we had one more biddy hatch during the night....

...it started pipping yesterday afternoon so I moved it from under broody #1 who was kicking them out of the nest to broody #2...

...and it seems so far she has better mothering instincts so I’ve left it with her... I’m hoping to get her to take the others still, but we’ll wait and see...

And we’re back to having soggy irises today, since shawluvsbirds passed the rain over to us ;)

Hey. .sharing is caring! Your welcome!

Well I thought my orange half wasn't attracting any orioles. Last night there was a storm and the orange had blown down to the ground, so I threw it in the compost. Then walking back, I saw a pair of Orioles fly away! I quickly retrieved it and put half an apple there too.

Our power was out for hours. No damage here, but when I called the power company their recording said poles were down. There must have been a tornado somewhere near Lamar....

Yay! ... for the orioles
:wee

Boo! ... for the power outage and storms... I spoke to a family member in Republic this morning and she mentioned it stormed heavily there last night...

btw, on the subject of power outages... talking to my neighbor yesterday evening and he mentioned that when the power goes on and off 3 times and doesn’t come back on after the third time... ( at least for rural power )... it’s by design of the substation or transformer or something like that... basically after 3 attempts to come back on, the system is designed to stay off as part of the built in “self test”...

It’s clear here for the moment ...many of the low water bridges over the surrounding creeks and river just became passable again... but I guess they’ll be up again tomorrow when the storms get to us.
