The flies may be because of the euoynmus bush that is near there. It is in bloom and they are pollinated by flies. I did not know this when I planted it. :sick
You don't wanna hit that thing with the mower when you go by this time of year. Terrible!

Uh oh... which kinda euoynmus? I have a few of the gold ones we planted not long ago, but they’re still pretty small.

Wow! I had cataract surgery on Tuesday on one eye, the first one. It was a positive experience, but at first, sight was blurry. There was no discomfort at all. For 24 hrs I had a clear plastic shield over my eye. Then yesterday was a visit to the eye doc, who said all appears normal. I wore sunglasses all day because it seemed so bright. By evening yesterday, everything came into focus! The detail and color were amazing. Everything so sharp and bright! I was just staring at the hedge, the trees, the chickens, the rabbits in the yard....I can't wait to have the other eye done too, which is in 3 weeks. Medicare pays for this surgery, for single vision lens, so I still need reading glasses.

Geez, woke up to finding septoria leaf spot on two of the raised beds and spotted another tobacco hornworm, but that was the only one I found and it was a big one. I sprayed the plants with some chlorothalonil, hope that stops it.

Found this page the Missouri Botanical Garden this morning with some good info.

My irises look rough due to leafs spot... it’s just been so wet I suppose... I’m afraid I’m going to loose a few of them this year... but we’ll see ...

I think there’s gonna be a lot of plant disease and bug issues this year :(

Weird my 16 tomato plants on the deck (which are doing squat for tomatoes) look pristine and no bugs... also only 4 tomatoes have started.

An interesting thing I saw on the MBG page is to not water them from above, which I had done until switching to a soaker hose a couple of weeks back after a buddy told me it's bad to water them from above.

Ahhh... I remember my grandpa who always had a stellar garden saying only water tomatoes at the base... I guess that’s why.

... somehow in my head I thought it had to do with nocking the pollen off the blooms or something... but I bet it was more to do with diseases now that you mention it....

I’ve yet to water our bucket maters... Ma Nature’s been doing that for me so far!
