The big news here today is I got my old truck’s AC recharged finally ... I don’t know if the rest of you have noticed... but it’s been a bit warm out lately ;)

I’d tried three times to add Freon and it wouldn’t take, so I went to borrow a different hose from my neighbor thinking that it must be something wrong with mine....

That’s when I noticed that the can of Freon he had was different than the ones I had... apparently the ones I had were some sorta new “self sealing” cans that require an adapter :he

Long story short I have cold air again!

:yesss:

Good news on both :ya

....I didn't know they had "self sealing" cans of freon...

JT

I didn’t either... it’d been about 6 years since I’d done this... so didn’t remember that the normal cans don’t have any sort of hole in the top...

The self sealing ones have a little hole with a valve in the top so you can use a partial can I suppose...

I saw this on the can, but was assuming my dispenser hose had the adapter built in...

There I was hoping it would not rain so I could do a zillion things outside while it's not so hot and well that thought got washed down to the creek.

I wish I had a video but I don't so I'll try to describe it. I was cleaning the coop and yard and doing my normal stuff going in and out of the Florida room. I tossed out some scratch and BOSS into the yard and everyone is pecking and scratching out there so I sneak back in the Florida room and grab a tupperware container I use to catch brown crickets that find their way into the basement. I step outside onto the rubber horse mat and quietly call Monique... she runs pell-mell toward me with her wings flapping madly and out running all the rest of the hens and when she reaches the rubber horse mat she puts on her brakes but they don't work so well so she slams into my leg like she is sliding into home plate. Didn't phase her a bit she got the cricket.

I think you’ve convinced me to buy a cricket trap. I catch a few here and there, but I bet if I set a trap in the shed I could have chicken treats waiting for me every morning.

That's really funny, @jthornton ....
Wonderful cooler weather!!!!!!!!!!!! We got 2" of rain, that's gone now, gave our garden a good drink. It shouldn't get much over 80 today. It's lovely!

I don't really see crickets much, but when I mow the lawn it stirs up grasshoppers. One hen is bold enuf to come really close and she gets so close I have to stop the mower repeatedly. She really likes it when I am mowing around an increasingly smaller area, and the grasshoppers naturally go into that shrinking center ...bonanza for Speckles! That's our rodeo here. One chicken, a lawnmower, and a dozen grasshoppers.
