I checked my records from 2017 and transit time from Lebanon to Poplar Bluff is 2 days!

That seems like a long time, but i guess maybe not. Letters seem to take about 4 or 5 to get anywhere.

Today was cold, dreary and rainy. I tried to get some work done outside but I was wearing a coat, gloves and a scarf ( as well as clothes ) but still got cold and had to come inside.
But I did get another small section of chain link fence removed and installed in it's new location. Tomorrow we are headed up the road a bit ( 21 minutes) to collect some free manure. ( Llama, chicken, horse, ...) The lady runs an animal rescue I had never heard of before.
Went to Lowe's today and picked up supplies to build a raised garden bed. I am needing to expand my garden and I am getting to the point where my hips hurt so going to a raised bed seems like it will be a good idea!

I don't remember if I said it on here or not, but we got our first hummingbirds a few days ago!!
This year I am also seeing other bigger birds trying to feed out of the hummingbird feeders too. I've never seen that before!
I tried putting out oranges last year when everyone else was seeing orioles but all I ever saw were ants.

I finally remembered to go take pictures of all the chicks in the brooder. 17 are the meat chicks I picked up yesterday, 4 are chicks that I hatched out last weekend and 1 is a chick I hatched out 3 or 4 weeks ago!

I don't remember if I said it on here or not, but we got our first hummingbirds a few days ago!!
This year I am also seeing other bigger birds trying to feed out of the hummingbird feeders too. I've never seen that before!

Our first hummingbird showed up on April 8th this year... just a lone male ... then we had a couple more males trickle in.... but then yesterday a bus full of hummingbirds showed up, lol

We probably had 15 or so today... they seemed to have arrived with the orioles and some other migrants...

Yesterday I saw the first brown thrasher of the year, and today I saw a blue grosbeak and a few yellow rumped warblers in the yard... some years I see rose breasted grosbeaks on their way north too...

it varies from year to year, but it seems like as the trees leaf out some interesting birds come through

that one bigger chick better be nice ... all those little fluffs are gonna out grow it in no time, lol

We have skinks here. The kitty was playing w one, (remember the invisible cat? He's now very friendly ) and the poor skink had lost his tail in the cruel game. It saw me and ran toward me, climbing up onto my foot, and over the top and into my boot! I carefully walked to a more skink-friendly locale, removed my boot, and tipped it to release it. 15 minutes later, the kitty was still searching the ground where the skink had disappeared. He never saw the daring escape!

View attachment 2114000He is so thrilled to be around us, He runs around like a puppy when we are outside, jumping at us in mock attacks, racing around in circles. I can hug him and squeeze him and he never complains, he just soaks it up. Our other cat doesn't allow him in the house, so he's our barn cat.

Tomorrow my sister is bringing us a nice stray that showed up...

my wife has been wanting a cat, and she REALLY doesn’t like snakes...

The last couple of years I’ve given 3 or 4 big black rat snakes away to my neighbor that lives up the road a ways, because they don’t play well with the baby chickens...

sometimes I think I should get rid of the chickens and just raise snakes and raccoons though
