calling any one from missouri

And you too, @OhZark Biddies , how many colors of iris do you have?

that’s a good question... colors idk... varieties... idk either, lol

Our iris collection is still a bit of an ebb and flow ... we lost a few last year... but I dig a few from here and there each year...

If I had to guess I’d say 20... I need to redo our main iris bed as it’s hard to maintain... stays a bit too damp... and could use more sun...

you can buy some amazing irises... but my favorites come from trades, and digging old home places

I have the same issues with sunshine. You move them in the fall and find a good place for them, you think... and then in the spring, whoa, where you put them is smack dab in the shade! :th

hey your hive looks like it has a corporate sponsorship or something! Lol... or they’re sports fans?

goosberries do indeed grow wild all over Missouri... I have a big bush I mow around by the chicken coop though... so I consider it domesticated 😉

I say “pee-own-ee”... I suspect though that SueT says “PEE-un-nee”... if I recall correctly I think she originates from the NE and folks I know from that region say it that way...

either is acceptable in my book... calling them roses is not 😀
When both brood boxes and both supers are on the hive it will say Karen's Bees. A friend painted it for me and I don't think she realized that it wouldn't all be stacked all the time!

I like that!... that’s like an extra bit of excitement/reward when the nectar flow is on...to see all the letters .., it’s like a secret code

I actually like your hive paint better than my own ... I have one hive that is boring white... and another one ( turned to three) that is a sage green... it’s meant to blend in... just because of where it is placed... but if it were placed elsewhere I’d be opting for a “happier” color ... and swiping that secret code letters thing 😉

Btw... here is a missouri FB bee group that has some interesting local bee stuff ... I’m not on FB but browse it sometimes

Our full shade setup is a blessing when the AC is running, but we struggle to grow sun loving plants... which makes growing a vegetable garden a challenge...

But I have a spot of ‘rock garden’ going in one place that gets sun for about 4 hours ... and some prickly pear cactus started there now... my wife says I’m the only fool to ever wish to have a spot so poor to grow cactus 🤪

once upon a time I had an old neighbor named Bob... and one spring he walked over and gave my wife a half a flat of marigolds that he started from seed...

Bob was a great neighbor... and my wife and I just always saved seed from those marigolds and re-seeded with them... but also gave him a gazillion seeds each year too...

We moved away ... but always kept our ‘Yellow Bobs’ going ... but I just realized I planted my last ‘Yellow Bob seeds’ last year... but our wealth of shade has made it a diminishing return... and I didn’t have any marigolds do well last year...

I hope old Bob is doing well... if not I hope they planted him where marigolds will grow! ( we still trade Christmas cards each year so I know he was still kicking as of December 😉)

A wheelbarrow with a rusted out bottom serves well if you put in a layer of hardware cloth and a screen so all the rainwater can drain out, and fill it with sandy, rocky soil. I wanna try that for my hens n chicks, and maybe quit downing my aloe vera plant as well!

Rusted out wheelbarrow?!? I’m too poor for that kinda luxury... That sorta thing seems to bring top dollar at the auction places...😆

I have a very rocky, very thin soil, very well drained and dry spot that I think will make my ‘spine babies’ happy ...lol @shawluvsbirds , not as cuddly as fur babies but wth
