Yeah, what river is that?
I've floated most of the rivers and creeks south of the Missouri River- and even the length of the Missouri itself.
The only doves I've ever seen in MO are Mourning Doves.

This is a piece of the upper Meramec that is sometimes too low to float in the summer without dragging a lot... so it’s mostly a stretch that locals float ...
We often do a quick one hour stretch of this in the evenings in the middle of the week ... but we did about 3 hours worth today
the river was up a bit for this time of year so it was a good float... and we had it to ourselves so it was very peaceful
I saw an otter on the bank
...the fishing was very poor compared to when I used to float this stretch when I was a kid (before the MDC brought in otters
) ... We call them ‘river wolves’
... But still it was fun to see one of the ornery critters

I fished the blue ribbon stretch of the Little Piney south of Rolla yesterday and saw a guy and his son come by in kayaks ... have you ever floated that one?
It sure is clear water... I’ve never floated it... but I’m gonna have to figure out a time to go back

Is that by Cook Station or Wesco (above Meramec Spring)?
I love floating and fishing past the spring branch.

yep, the bridge in the pic is at Wesco...
i think I’d almost rather have poachers... they’re not as cute as an otter, but are probably dumber and easier to catch
...I’ve trapped for otters in the last ten years or so trying to help the rivers and some nearby ponds that they were getting into, and they are the one thing that I never really figured out... they’re very clever ( more clever than me I guess
) ... and they’re voraciousthe reduction in the number of fish in the small streams in the last 25 years or so since the otters is just remarkable...
I used to catch smallmouth and goggle eye on the upper meramec with almost no effort... these days it’s like it’s just empty... you can’t even find a sunfish in some stretches
