Hello! I'm new chicken owner in KCMO! I have 7 chickens that are 8 weeks old now. They are doing great in their coop and run. They are so much fun to sit and watch on my lunch break since I work from home mostly.
Welcome to the MO thread from SW MO! I have 13 chickens here, watching ‘chicken TV’ is an important activity! 2AF6CE74-D271-45F3-85F8-E338FF3470F8.jpeg

They are amusing little characters, aren't they?
They really are! I wanted to find the right personality of chicken for me, so I got a variety: maran, Orpington, cream legbar, beilefelder (pullet and roo), barred rock, and australop. They are SO different. They are curious like cats, but (at least mine) friendly like dogs. They always wait for me by the front gate of the run every day for me to sit with them (really - give them treats 😆) It's really the best decision I've made to get them. I'm already trying to convince myself I need more, but I'm max 15 in the city, so I probably should wait a couple years before getting more!

You can have 15 in Kansas City?? Wow.

Yep! And up to 50 under 4 mo old. Your coop has to be 100 ft from any other dwelling. 300 ft if you have a rooster. Our neighborhood has a lot of chicken owners and I can hear at least 3 roosters at my house. Our neighborhood is good and doesn't seem to care as long as there's no odors or stray birds. Although, if there's a stray bird, I'm sure a feral cat would get it.

That's pretty cool.

So I found this bug today in Jamaica. I picked it up with a leaf. The resort owner told me to PUT IT DOWN! Apparently it is very poisonous. 😳 They call it
”40 legs”. The one I found was already dead but the resort owner carefully carried it over to the trash can and threw it away. Apparently it can be deadly to small children 😳
