calling any one from missouri

Everyone must be busy. Way too quiet around here.

I am expecting my shipment of Cornish Cross tomorrow. Kids and I are excited to have babies aorund again. I have read up on all I can and know that they will drink TONS of water. Hopefully they will feather out fast so I can put them outside. I know 25 birds will stink up the house quick. I just want to have great tasting, tender birds at the end of 8 weeks.

I am having my youngest son take pictures of the birds every day to chronicle their growth. I am also going to journal about the experience. Its the English teacher in me but I think it will be interesting to see their progress. Hoping they are not awful, genetically, once they are mature. I have heard that they can hardly function when they are ready to butcher.

you could have him weigh them each day too. then you can calculate an average daily gain. sounds like a good science fair project to me

I have considered getting some before because of the desire to have fresh chickens. I have not done it because of how they live their lives. I will be interested to see how your project goes. I hope you will keep posting on this thread.
And you are right, it has been way too quiet on here so I am happy you have brought some life back to the thread.

I have seen the thread on egg prices. Don't see alot from missouri, and , was just wondering what people are charging. From brown to white ,to urban or rural.

I raise lovely orpingtons and can't sell any eggs around here at all...not for a dollar per dozen. so I donate my eggs to the God's Harvest in town. They hand out free food for those who are having a hard time. Too many around here raise their own eggs so it is nice to give back to the community in a small way.

I don't have tons of eggs by any means but the ones I do get are usually spoken for at $1.50 a dozen. We keep the cracked and smaller ones for ourselves and sell the larger ones.
Last week I had to get eggs from a friend to help satisfy customers but that has never happened before. Right now the girls aren't laying as many so it is hard to keep up with demand.
I have one customer who buys once a month and she buys 6 dozen at a time.
There was a time when I couldn't give them away! so I feel very lucky right now. I am not getting rich but it helps with the feed cost.

Ok, I don't usually have anything to sell and I don't want to ship so maybe someone near me or willing to meet me half way...
I have 3 mottled cochin bantams too many. These guys are 2-6 months. The youngest guy I have not gotten any recent pics of but here is one of the older ones.

I have been advertising them on craigslist to no avail so I thought I would give it a try here. I will sell these guys for $10 each. I will consider selling a trio for $45
I am in the Moberl Mo. area if you are interested just send me a message.
Thanks
