It has been crazy weather. I haven't worried about the chickens, much...

Just wondering though... Our roosts are on the north side of the coop and the run doors are below them. We don't have doors on the openings though. Is that bad? Do we need to have doors for the winter?

Sounds like you are having fun spoiling your chickens! I am in Jefferson City. I have bantam d'uccles , Lanshan hens, 1 egg eating barred rock who I keep around as a pet, and some half grown jersey giants who are already the biggest chickens in my flock!

Teddi-

The d'uccle pair we got from you are turning out quite lovely. The rooster especially is very handsome. We named them Lucy and Ricardo. Ricardo's tail in recent months has really grown up and out and he is quite a prince.

Going to try candling today my eggs in the bator. More or less to see if I can see anything. Don't think I will cull any out though. Not enough confidence for that.

Misschickenlittle- I have a door on mine but the only time I close it is if we are expecting heavy snow(not very often here in central mo) or if the bitter winds pick up.

I have a door on my coop and close it usually when it gets below 20 and if the winds are really fierce and the weather wet! Last year I had a problem with the Roos Comb getting black spots (Frost bite) so I started closing up the coop when wheather was bitter and below 20 i also have a red heat lamp to knock off the chill and believe me they huddle under it when they get cold

You mean like the wind we're having today? Man is it bitter! I went out to check for eggs this afternoon and when I opened the coop door, the wind knocked one of the pieces of insulation out of the blocked off vents we have on the NW side of the coop roof! That's the wind I'm worried about.
