CALLING " Mary of Exeter "

Well......

Now the female is sitting on the 2 chicken eggs. One Cochin & one Austrolorp, these are not bantam eggs, they are large fowl. AND the male went back out of the coop and is sitting on 2 new laying hen eggs and these eggs are huge! They are Golden Comet eggs. I will not let him keep these.

There is much confusion in barn today. A hen went to get in the box to lay her egg and got kicked out by a pigeon

Yes, male pigeons do share nesting duty

The hen probably started it, or maybe he is confused thinking those are her eggs, LOL. Either way, yes they can hatch chicken eggs. Whenever I don't want anymore pigeon babies for the year, I swap their eggs with chicken eggs as "dummy eggs". They hatch them out and I pop the chicks in the brooder

Here's one of my hens in the Old Bird loft with her baby. My homers can incubate standard sized eggs or bantam, they don't care. Lahores are much larger, so I'm not surprised they are handling more. I've also hatched quail under them.

I've probably hatched at least 6 chicks from my pigeons.

I moved the male back into his coop and he took over for mama

I guess I will keep their door closed so he stops stealing the hen eggs.

I REALLY want to get a peafowl egg under them. They are not much bigger then the eggs they are sitting on and I don't really need anymore chicks. I have a broody Silkie with 3 pea eggs & a tiny bantam hen (smaller then the pigeons) with 1. I may swap out an egg that is already 2 weeks into incubation for the 2 chicken eggs.
This is a whole new experience for us. We just have the pigeons for pretty.

And are so happy that they want to foster.

Now they have a job.... everyone needs something to do, not just sit in a cage bore, to rot. The female does not come out of the coop, the male has a few time, but just sits around. I want them to be happy.

Mary of exeter I have just gotten some pigeon eggs from my friend she could not have them so I said I would take them but I don't know a thing about them and I think one of them has a blood circle

From what I can see, I think the egg is okay? I never have a reason to candle my pigeon eggs. I just let the parents sit on them until they are done - if they hatch, they hatch. Maybe some people who have more experience with candling forming eggs will chime in.
