CALLING MISS PRISSY AGAIN!!~~New goose question page 5

Quote:
Why would you want to mist quail eggs? they are not waterfowl and high humidity would most likely kill the embryo.

I use a hovabator and remove the lid for 15 min. Pulling your trays out will allow the eggs to cool better than just opening the door.

greyfields hatches his in a cabinet bator. Lets get him over here to talk to you about it.

This is why I was asking. I don't mist any eggs yet, all I have done is quail and chickens, and not that many quail.

Would it be better to have the quail eggs with the duck eggs or the chicken eggs?

Do the duck eggs need to be misted, or just have higher humidity?

Thank you Miss Prissy, you are a great help to everyone here!

Chicken and quail can go together.

Ducks can go with geese. Some people mist duck eggs. I don't. They do need same high humidity as goose eggs. Also same amount of incubation.

Ducks hatch messy.

Geese hatch disgusting!

This is why I don't mix eggs in incubation.

Ok, so I think I've got it now

OK Miss Prissy, I have goose eggs pipping and it is day 26 from when I put them in the bator. We found 13 eggs, duck and goose in the same nest and did not know they had been laying. They were in their dog box that we thought they never used....UM RIGHT!!!!

Temps have run from 98.6 to 101.8 but mainly around 100.8 and humidity I cannot get higher than 50%. I candled them Sunday night and all were wiggling around in the egg nicely. That is a plus!

Question one, how do i raise the humidity in the bator? All troughs are full of water and such. What else can I do to up the humidity?

Question two, after they pip, how long before they Zip? They pipped about 1:00am this morning/last night. I just don't want to loose these goslings because of plain old stupidity on my part. And I don't want to intervene unnecessarily.

Teach me, you wonderful teacher, teach me!

You can use a new clean athletic sock soaked in warm water to boost humidity.

They can take 48 hours or more to hatch. Helping them is usually fatal.

Hold tight and try to let nature do her thing.

Good luck!

they will pip a hole, and talk to each other for a few days sometimes before they zip! be patient. A gosling will have a slightly weak neck at hatch. make sure they are strong and lifting their head well before placing in brooder. Good luck!

Thanks so much MissPrissy, you are such a wealth of knowledge!

I couldn't remember if it was 24 hours or 48, thanks for clarifying that.

I will put a clean sock in there with warm water and see if I cannot get it boosted up.

This is gonna be a test of my will power! people help me!!!

Thank goodness I have to work till 4:30 that gives them 12 hours without my intervention. LOL Just kidding, I will tie my hands together and just WATCH from the viewing window....and by the way I used the old metal turners with the rubbery egg holders to incubate these so we will see what happens.
