calling on Cuckoo marans experts- pic added

I'm just wondering how young you can sex cuckoo marans? Are they like BR and the lighter ones tend to be males? Just curious - I have one CM that is about will be 3 weeks old this weekend - probably too early to tell unlike my 4 week old cochins who are almost all roos! (Think I got one pullet out of 9)

Yes, the roos feather out lighter than the pullets.

I think all my males had a spot on the top of their heads if I remember correctly.

Color sexing is pretty easy with these babies. Nearly all my cuckoos had spots on their heads, so that didn't help me. I was able to tell pretty quickly as the pullets were darker than the males. The males also have more of a barring pattern and the females have specks of white on the black. At 2-3 weeks, it was blantantly obvious. The cockerals combs get pink and big very early. This was my first hatch. I am sure someone more experienced could have known even earlier.

I'm thinking she is a pullet because she is pretty black - but that is interesting about the bars being just flecks of white. That is how she

is. No signs of waddles or any red in the comb yet either. I'll try to go get a pic of her.

yay! That is what I was thinking. If I only have one the least it could do is be a pullet! Hmmm planning for next spring - wonder what Cuckoo Maran and RIR chicks would look like...
