Camel spider

[Yucca quail]

I found a camel spider in my quail run.. after screaming my head off I squished it.. I’m afraid there could be more. I do not know what to do. I’m pretty sure they eat small birds any bird safe suggestions?

A camel spider? Are you sure that’s what it was?Where are you located exactly?
How big and old are your quail? I would think if the birds big enough the spider would be an easy meal!

By camel spider, you mean a solifugid, correct?

I don't believe they would harm full grown quail. They are solitary, so I wouldn't worry too much.

Maybe secure your enclosure with hardware cloth. Larger solifugae wouldn't be able to get through it.

Yes. They are very common where I live pretty harmless for humans but when they startle or run in your direction.. my husband has screamed like a lil girl because of one

Think it’s too late.. I think they already live in the quail run. It’s 45 by 80+ foot area and they were probably already in the dirt hopefully they don’t cause any issues

Oh that is quite a bit bigger than I was picturing lol.

Maybe go through it with a rake and some permethrin dust? It would probably take a dump truck load to kill them, but maybe it would deter them.

Unfortunately very sure that’s what it is Quail vary in size and age right now. I do have quite a few young, small ones. The super young small ones are in a cage inside my run with hardware cloth thankfully

Haha rake might work.. Oh goodness, my discovery was traumatic. I though it was a mouse hole and I foolishly messed with it.. with my bare hands.

I don’t know where those things live but I’ve never had to deal with them.
