Hi, we just bought 2 peachicks and they are cameo. They are about 1 week old and don't really want me to interact with them:( Does anyone know anything about this kind of peacock?

Thanks for any information!!

I have 2 4week old cameos myself... How long have you had them? Mine seem fine with me but I put my hand with food in it in the brooder of the evening as a treat... Sometimes with hard boiled egg yolk crumbled up, sometimes dried meal worms, sometimes just their feed so they would be use to me... I have six Peachicks all together so don't know if that makes a difference but would not think so... If they are brand new it could just be that but I'd try giving them a treat by hand... Wash ur hands up real good first then put their treat in hand a slowly put in brooder and hold her steady for them to come to you... Worth a try ...?....

I just got them on Sunday. We bought them from a local feed store. I would have bought them all (4 total) but they were $40 each! I tried feeding them from my hand some cooled scrambled eggs mashed up but they didn't even want to try it:( Do you have pics of yours? Have you been able to tell if they are male/female? I'll take some pics and and try to figure out how to post them. We have had chickens for several years and have incubated several... I thought I knew what to expect with these guys. I'm sad to say that I feel like I don't know anything because they seem to be so different. They are much more inquisitive with everything and not as noisy. I like the sound of their peeps:) They don't drink as much water as our chicks have. I let them out in our mudroom to interact with them and they find a corner to hide in. I was hoping they would bond to me more. Maybe I'm just being too impatient.

Something I did not know before and I've had peafowl for 8 years but theses are my first Peachicks but you have to teach them to eat so now my question to you is are they eating?? Peafowl have a low immune system so be sure to wash your hands before handling .... At a week old they need to be kept warm at 95 degrees dropping 5 degrees each week as they grow... Don't let let onto the dirt ground outside as they can pick up so much from the dirt and risk making them sick or die... If you haven't seen them eat you need to show them by maybe boiling up an egg and crumbling the yolk up with their feed, take your finger and get that mixture onto your finger nail offering it to them kinda tapping and pecking at the feed mixture like your finger might be their beak, this gets them curious and they will eat off your finger then mimic the action... I sweeten my water for them with a bit of sugar diluted in it hoping to gain their interest in their water and it helps... Even just holding them will help them adjust keeping them tucked close to you so they learn you are a comfort for them and not just the shop keeper to run from... I hope some of this is making sense if you know what I'm trying to say...
I don't know the sexes of mine yet but will post a pic for ya

Wow, thanks for all the great info! One of my peachicks looks like yours, the other one doesn't seem to look the same. Do you think the multi colored one is really a cameo??

I don't think they are both Cameo.. The one on the left looks Cameo but not the right and I don't have anything that color to guess what it is but others might... Like maybe the Black Shoulder mention ...and KsKingBee know her stuff! Good luck and still pretty babies!
