Does anyone have a camera/monitor in their coop (like they have for babies)? I'm interested in putting one in my coop, and am reaching out to fellow BYC'ers for advice and suggestions.

I don't have one personally but i've read of several ppl using the deer hunter type cameras. Have heard they work great for this.

OK, I'll admit it... I have a baby monitor in the coop since the first day I put them out there.

I turn it on every night on my nightstand. I don't know why I do it, the coop is secure, but I feel better listening. They wake me every morning at day break then I turn off the monitor and continue my sleep. It does drive DH nuts though!

I also have a remote thermometer in the coop since winter is coming. I like to see from my kitchen what the coop temp is and the high/low for the day. It's insulated and keeping very steady temps, so I'm happy with that so far.

I've just added an in-line thermometer for the heat lamp too. I think my girls have more outlets in their coop than I do in my livingroom.

I may need help, ... someone please help me....

There are many, many options for cameras in the coop. To learn what's right for you, you'll really need to do some serious homework on the subject. Fortunately there's a lot of info available online.

You have options for CCTV (cable to TV or VCR) or network camera (camera has own IP and can be viewed with your computer browser). There are black & white cameras and color, and there are night vision options. There many lens options and CCD or CMOS sensors. The camera can be fixed or it can pan, tilt, and zoom. Your camera can be wired to your computer or VCR or it can be wireless, it can be battery powered or mains (110 v) powered. The options and choices are almost infinite and very confusing.

For ease of installation, a wireless IP camera would probably be the best. Here's a nice setup off of ebay:

I can't personally endorse this camera because I've never used it, but for features and price, it looks pretty good.

I have one in mine that can be viewed on the computer by anyone that has the password.

Best time to check it out is in the morning around 5am or around 5pm.

My coop is split in two with chicken wire down the middle.

Nice for the winter so I can see who's done laying!

Logitech WiLife camera system. These are digetal outdoor video systems plus indoor systems too. Plug it into an outlet and install the software on your PC and boom you can see both in the coop and in the run. You can also view remotely online for when you are away from the house.

can any of these be put in a coop without electricity and without a computer in the coop?

looking to add a camera to my coop that can wifi to my home computer in the house. i would like to be able to log on over an ip address from my work computer or my iphone or home computer in the night. sorry this is all new to me.

Our coop was too far from the house for the wireless. It was all static and not a great picture.

Luckily I have a DH that loves to be outside building, digging, making things work so we dug 300 ft of wire into the ground for the camera.
