Camera in Coop??

Quote:
Does this one connect to your computer? I have DSL but not wireless connection to computer. I want to put one in my coop and view it on my computer. I have power access in the coop.

No that camera hooks to a VCR or TV. If you want to watch it on your PC it wont work. Sounds like you need an IP camera. Here is the one I am testing now. So far I like it an may buy several more. Here is what it looks like. It runs real good on my network. Im sure it is a bit slower over the internet. It auto changes to black an white at night an shows great in pitch black. You would have to run a Ethernet cable to it. 100 foot sections on ebay go for about $6 shipped. If ya dont want to run wire you can get a wifi camera but the price goes up a lot an you need to buy a wifi router.

Thanks SO MUCH! I'm not geek-rated and this is all a mystery to me. I have a router(?) box that has 3 ports: Ethernet, DSL, and USB. The USB is the only one open. Is that the one I would connect the camera to? Other than plugging it into the power source nearby, is there any other connection I would need to get it onto my Computer screen? I don't want to broadcast it on the internet, just my computer for me to see.

No you would need a router that has more than one ethernet port. How far is your PC from your coop? Is there a special reason ya want to watch them on your PC. If not you could get a good camera with ether a coaxial cable or RCA plug real cheap an hook it strait to one of the thousands of non-digital TVs that everyone is giving away. The only real reasons to have the cameras hooked to your PC is to show them on the net for some reason or other. Like a website or so you can log on an check on them from some where other than home.

That's a good thought I hadn't considered. I don't have to have it on the PC, it just seemed convenient to check on my babies when I check my e mail at night. If I get a regular tv and run coax from the camera to it, what type camera should I get? What connection feature should I look for to be compatible with the tv?

I really appreciate your advice. Thank you.

I dont know a lot about those cameras but I think the RCA cable cameras are more common than coaxial. I think coaxial cameras would be more expensive but the cable should be cheaper. A video baby monitor or wireless camera may work for your needs?
