"Camping Out" at the feed store

Our local feed store has been selling chicks like crazy this year, too. They got a shipment of 200 on Wednesday and by Saturday morning they were gone. It's been like that this whole spring, and the owner told me he tried to order more from the hatchery but they were all sold out. The only reason he's been getting the ones he has is because he pre-ordered them last year.

I've been reading about the 6 chick minimum at TSC, but our local guy has had to go the opposite direction. If you want less than 25 chicks (or if he's known you and your family forever) the chicks are $2. each. If you want more than 25 chicks, they are $4.75 each.

He said that's the only way to keep people from buying his chicks cheap and then reselling them for a profit because it's so hard to find chicks this year.

I got 6 of mine from TSC for 3/$1. 33 cents per chick!

Chicks are $2-4 each in my area, so buying sexed specialty breeds from www.mypetchicken.com wasn't a huge stretch.

Chicks in my area are $3 a bird...100 mile radius...

I'd pay $20 per bird easy if I KNEW I was going to get exactly what I wanted and have it shipped to me, but since that's impossible (no one ships day old chicks in the quanity of TWO)

I'll wait in the feedstore line...well not anymore, because I have what I want and need for now.

I'm hoping the feedstore gets some frizzles and silkies, I'd take one of each if they could promise me GIRLS and FRIZZLY!

im just glad our feed store orders poultry by request for us. I ordered 8 pullets (black sex linked) and she got on the phone right away and called ideal and they should be here by or before the 20th. I dont even have to pay shipping....just $2.93 a chick

Our feed store, the ACA Co-op wants people to begin arriving at 9 am. Your chicks are ordered at least 2 weeks in advance, pre-boxed and your name is on the container. They get you to check the little ones first, then head you to the counter and you're outta there, unless you need to pick up feed. Chicks are less than 12 hours after hatch.

I had 100% survival, birds were hydrated and friendly $1.75 each, not taxed, all pullets .
