I tried the painters tape, and one of her feet was even more twisted. Now I made cardboard orthotics with painters tape, and coming up around her ankles to help with her walking up right. It’s hard for her to walk in them, sh keeps flopping forward a d has trouble getting up. Also gets stuck in the corner of the brooder.

Now trying to keep her in a mug to practice standing correctly...but this just can’t go on. She can’t get to food and water. I’m droppering her water but can’t continue this level of round the clock care.

Does this look like the proper orthotics?

Any other ideas?

I wrapped breathable tape (like for for growing mushrooms) on my chick’s feet. I wrapped the problem area with broken pieces of toothpick that fit the length. In total I wrapped a piece of tooth pick on each side of the toe, but each was done individually

Any chance you have a picture? I am having trouble visualizing! Also you are amazing, it is hard to do this detailed work while they wiggle.

She definitely tips forward. And her right leg tends to tip back, or it’s hard foe her to bring it forward. Thus she gets tripped up. She kind of commando walked before the orthotics and was at least not splayed out unable to get up.

I don’t have a photo, so I hope this helps. It’s one piece of tooth pick with tape stuck to it, wrapped around the problem toe. Then I get another stick with tape and wrap it around the same toe. Then I put tape under the whole foot with each toes placed where they need to be. And I put another piece on top to keep it in place.

That is a great photo- thank you! I think the cardboard helped make that happen for my splints, I will recheck and see if the toes have stayed on straight. It seems like it’s just hard for her to stay upright in them

These were great articles thank you. After a day of trying different booties I am think I have to give up. She isn’t able to walk anymore, with or without the booties. Her left leg is sliding out and back and she panics and ends on her belly with her legs backward. And she can’t get back up. It is worse and worse to watch.

I redid the orthotics with bandaids this time and a better hobble with medical tape. She can’t really stand up outside of a mug without toppling over but her balance is a little better. I gave her vit b. Thank you for the help and support
