I recently picked up a lab mix about a week and a half ago.I also found an abandoned puppy.Every Hong was going good till Monday morning.I noticed my puppy become quite lethargic although at first I thought it was him being lazy. The behavior worsen so I thought it could be the new feed we recently switched them to,but it became obvious it wasn’t.This morning we called the vet to go get him tested to find he was parvo positive. We got him shots Saturday and he appeared ok Sunday, things just happened so fast.He now is laying on floor just as weak as ever.He is breathing slowly and it just sucks, makes you want to not even raise animals. We had three kittens die, from what nobody knows. This angers me.We have ton of vitamins and even a fluid thingy to pump fluid Into him,I am praying he hangs on through the night.Get the shots, this stuff is extremely contagious and strong.

We had a puppy get that. He was older, probably about 3 or 4 months.
The vet gave us fluids to give him subcutaneously and antibiotics.
He pulled through.
I don’t play around with diseases.
We’d only had this guy for a couple of days when he got sick.

Won’t be getting anymore, this was to replace to dogs who died, and because we had to five up our lovely pitbull,he is moving and getting up and the best thing we could do is keep him hydrated. He has had a ton of pedialite and water and every morning will get an antibiotic shot,I’m so hoping he is alive in the morning.

I am so sorry. As you know, if you keep him well hydrated he has a chance. Some people don't vaccinate because the shots are expensive but the cost is money well spent and will save you a lot of heartache. Certain breeds are more susceptible to parvo than others. When you acquire a stray or adopt a puppy or dog, you don't know what their vaccination history, if any, is. Sometimes the animal is already incubating a disease when you get them. Good nursing is the most important thing you can do, and it sounds like you are doing that. Having a sick puppy, or any critter, just sucks. Been there, done that. Never gets any easier. Keep us posted.

I don't know if you mentioned doing this, but chicken broth is very beneficial. It provides hydration, electrolytes, and some nutrition. You can beat up a raw egg yolk in it too and it can be force fed with a spoon or whatever. I wish you the very best of luck.

No excuse not to get a puppy vaccinations now days, TSC holds clinics often, don't remember exactly how much it is, $30-$40? for cats or dogs.
Even cheaper, we did it ourselves with our most recent dog. I wouldn't have known it but the guy we bought the puppy from did the first shots himself and told us what to get for the booster. TSC has puppy vaccines for parvo, distemper, etc $10-$15 per single dose syringe.
