Can a broody hen caused others to stop laying?

Thank you for the reply.

The roosts are not a foot higher than the boxes, probably closer to six inches so I will move them up higher today. The two roosts are also the same height and in researching this further have read that two different heights may also help so I will make that adjustment as well. Last night only one bird was in the box so I picked her up and put her on the roost. It was the bird I see as top of the pecking order tho so I'm guessing it's not a matter of not being allowed on the roost.

We are in Chicago so seems like we are down to about maybe 10 1/2 or 11 hours of daylight so that may well be it if they need 14-16. If it is just a natural cycle due to the season and does no harm to the bird then I doubt I'll bother with a light. We started this as a family project with the kids so I am not particular about how many eggs we get. We can afford a freeloading bird for the winter I suppose.

Thanks again for taking the time to share information!
