Should they be raised alone? Idealy no.

Chickens are much happier when they have companions of the same species.

If you can’t get it any friends I would rehome.

Hi @IceChicken! I'm glad you've joined BYC! I'm sorry if we haven't given you the warmest of welcomes.

As several people have brought up, chickens are social creatures and it is best to keep them with at least one other of their species. If there is any way that you can find another chick of the same age, this would be the best thing you can do for it. If there is absolutely no way of doing so, you will need to provide for its social needs yourself, which may be challenging.

I recognize there are sometimes extenuating circumstances that might result in a lone chick and then we must simply do all we can to alleviate the difficulties a lone chick will face, but if getting a second chick is a possibility in any way, this will be easier for both you and the chick in the long run.

I would provide it with a stuffed animal until then and spend plenty of time with it. Try and get it with some companions ASAP.

In my personal opinion, I think it is cruel to raise one alone.

but the deed is done, best you can do is eventually get it a friend.
