Can a critter take eggs without breaking them?

Don't rule out a dog. My pit bull (avatar) is quite adept at gently stealing eggs out of the nest boxes and running across the yard with them. Had no idea who was stealing my eggs until I saw him emerge from the coop (12" x 12" opening). As soon as he saw me he got a guilty look and let the egg fall out of his mouth on to the ground. Then ran off like he did nothing. He had been getting 2 or 3 eggs a day this way until I saw him and put a stop to it.

Go to youtube and search for "ratsnake eating eggs". A guy posted video of a snake the same size as the one you have eating 3 eggs. The comment he posted said the snake ate SIX in a really short time.

I have a mama cat that will steal eggs. Last summer I saw her carrying one from the coop to the old shop where her babies were. It was kind of funny watching her carry that egg and try to call the babies at the same time. Most of the other culprits I can think of have already been mentioned.

Wow never heard of that before. Lol

I think I underestimated those crooks! I may put out our game-cam and see what shows up. I'll have to check if something as small as a squirrel can activate the motion sensor.
My guess would be snake with all that hay to hide in and you are not finding a shells or any sticky from the eggs.

set the cam low and you will catch anything small or big.

Musta been some very small eggs or a very big cat cause none of my cats can open their mouth wide enough to haul off an egg
