Can a critter take eggs without breaking them?

My Labrador retriever used to sneak eggs that I gathered and set down. He carefully picked them up and apparently swallowed them whole as there was no evidence of broken shell on the ground and no "egg on his face". Finally caught him at it. I know snakes can do this. So there are probably several possibilities. A game camera would be interesting.

Rats will go up to a nest, sink their two big front teeth into the egg then carry the egg back unbroken to their rats nest to eat it. Its like putting the whole egg onto a forklift.

I'm wondering the same thing, my chicken was sitting on eggs, every day we let them into a run and she still sits there, there were two chickens that were broody so there was always someone on the egggs and I went away for five days on camp and 15+ eggs had disappeared and the chickens were unharmed, theories anyone?
