Can a hen raise ducklings?

What about two large totes put together. When I was brooding my Chicks inside I put two dog crates together on top of the table facing each other one end had the feed and water the other end had their stuffed animals they loved sleeping on. I had old window screen I put over top to keep them inside. It worked perfect this was 1 Xlarge dog crate and 1 large they had a lot of room to run around in there. I tie wrapped them together.
Hmm that might work. How long were they able to fit in there?

These were Salmon Faverolles LF breed and they were in there 5 weeks then we moved them outside . Ducklings probably won't get to stay in there that long but if your weather is hot and quite warm during the night they maybe able to go outside sooner than 5 weeks. But make sure you have a very secure area for them because predators are just waiting.

Here is my set up that i used for about two weeks until they got to big for it. Mind you i only had 3 ducklings. @Miss Lydia her idea is probably an more ideal set up if you are crunched for space.

What is it going to take to get the shed predator proof? can you post some pictures of the shed? we can give you some pointers, if that will help. Are you handy enough to build and outside box for them to sleep in at night?

My husband made a chicken wire framed lid for our livestock tanks and that’s what we used as brooders. We put them (we have 2) on the deck with a piece of ply weighted down with a pretty large kettlebell so nothing can get into them when we weren’t nearby. At first we used pine shavings, then grass as bedding. The important part is to get pretty deep ones so they aren’t bonking their heads, or damaging bills messing with the chicken wire.

The nice part of using livestock tanks as brooders is that means the brooders aren’t unitaskers. I can do whatever I want with the tanks after brooding is finished. The first set of ducklings we got were kept in a livestock tank at the farm supply store, I figured if it worked for them it’ll work for us.
