I had a flock of three silkies (2 roos and a hen). The 2 roos died this morning protecting the hen from a fox. Can she survive a cold winter alone, or does she need a flock?

Wow those were some brave roosters. They died heroically. I had a rooster like that named Napoleon, he fought with hawks several times and came out unscathed. Wish he was still around. My new rooster isn’t so fierce but his dad died fighting a fox.

You can give her a stuffed animal and a mirror too. I think she’ll be fine cold-wise but I would definitely find her some friends as quickly as you can.

Thanks. She's currently staying at my neighbor's coop. Her chickens and mine range together, so they're used to each other. I was just worried that putting her back in my coop alone would hurt her if there aren't other chickens to keep her warm. My three silkies slept on top of each other in my coop.
