Can a pair of Cornish X actually breed?

Well, so far this is the only good news I have read about cornish-rocks. Im glad to read that they can be good layers some times.

I have 6 cornish rock 3 day old babies. I wanted egg layhers so I had hoped for leghorns or road island reds but TSC only had cornish-rocks and in my mixed up mind I was thinking they are the next best brown egg layers. Once I got home and researched them I found that they are bad egg layers, get sick easy and fall over dead young.

We are not going to kill our pet chickens but we had hoped for eggs. I keep finding where they only live a few months to a year. I wish I had not gotten mixed up thinking they were good egg layers because this will break my kids heart when they start dying off. I hope I can keep them healthy for as long as possible and that they will lay eggs for us.

I am not a vet but had some training in the area. I can not answer your question specifically but Generally, cross species breeding like donkey and horses making mules are sterile. With in species crosses of different varities are not sterile. They may have physical limitations that make reporduction difficult or impossible like in a broad breasted turkey, with out a big breast lets say they WOULD be able to mate. I would have to say your friend is telling you a old wives tale.
