can a rooster be taught NOT to crow?

ive been trying to shut up my rooster from crowing with a powerful jet of water to the back of the head. First I started with a short burst, and now Im up to long bursts after alot of crowing. I try to do it only while he crows and here is the result: Spraying him with water usually gives me about an hour and a half of no crowing. He does seem very doscile towards me though he challenges me sometimes with a sidewards thrust towards me. I don't think I am going to use water anymore, cause it alarms the chickens, and the end result is he still crows as much as he did before the water sprays, maybe even a little more. I did raise him from a chick and he is gentle around me for the most part, but he wont eat any food from my hand. Someone suggested throwing pebbles everytime he crows, and then when he doesnt crow reward him with treats. I like this idea, but my next plan is to cover his cage with a black tarp until i fully wake up in the morning.

Order pullets.

Even that's no guarantee. We got a batch of 6 pullets and had one roo. We then got 2 cochin pullets and an EE pullet. One of the cochins is looking like a cockerel.

caponized roosters don't crow, that's what I have heard anyway
They may squawk, but a crow is very unlikely. I would really want to have a capon.
