Hi- I am new to BYC and to chickens, I just posted my new member introduction before this post.
We have our first chicks that we bought 8 weeks ago from Southern States.
A few days ago my kids were playing outside and came in excitedly saying they heard crowing from the coop. I have been wondering if my Golden Laced Wyandotte is a cockeral because he/she devoloped a red comb and wattle early on.
Yesterday I was outside working in the yard when I heard a crow as well. The crow was not very loud and distinct, but very different from what I have heard my chicks produce before.
So my question is- can a hen crow? I know that they usually don't, but has anyone known a hen to crow?
The city we live in does not allow roosters and I thought I bought all pullets, so I would like to find out if I possibly have a rooster that infiltrated our flock.
Thanks,
Angie aka: Sassinator
