can anyone confirm that this is a roo??

A local chicken breeder sold this to me several weeks ago as a pullet. My neighbor rushed to me this afternoon (I live in a community which doesn't allow but neighbors are cool) and asked how sure I am that this is a hen not a roo as he heard a couple of juvi crows this am.

Any confirmation from you guys?

its a Black Sex Link prob around 14 weeks.

If its a pullet then wonder where the crowing is? I know the 3 I have do a fair share of clucking in the morning. The oldest is 6-7months and I'm quite sure its a hen. The next is 5 month EE and pretty darn sure its a hen...its sibling became a crowing rooster 2 months ago...and then only other is the BSL. The BSL does have a head up tail up stance and the feathers are pointy and has a comb developing...isn't that a sign of a rooster or is it different on BSL? Thank you!

A cockerel BSL is a dead ringer (pretty much) for his mother, a Barred Rock. The bird that is black with a red chest is the pullet, who shows the red of her father, a red rooster that is used over the Barred Rock.

This is NOT the only mix that is out there, however. Plus, it is tough to say with absolute certainty that this bird is a BSL. But IF it is a BSL, it must be a pullet. Just the way the whole sex link thing works.

EEs usually are hard to tell gender on and most people end up with roos in this section.

Wouldn't I know by 5 months? She was born on 2/14. The sibling (same hatch but maybe not same egg type) was sold as an americauna and he was MUCH bigger and turned out to be a roo. Could there be that much difference in the two where it took 2 extra months for roo like behavior and this one is also half the size of the other..no comb either?

First bird looks like a pullet, probably bsl as advertised. At 14 weeks a roo would have comb, etc.
The ee is a pullet.

I wonder who else around you has secret chickens?

Is the neighbor sure it was crowing? Point of lay hens can be very noisy, lots of cackling and calling.

Ha ha that is hilarious! Not sure...they heard the Americauna rooster crow (so they say)...a pic of him is below. I no longer have him but he sure was cool looking and sweet.
They do cackle and cluck in the am especially when they see people as they are ready to get out of their small house and range...The 6 month old may be trying to lay..its about time. She is wyandotte of some kind...white with black spots....
